Gina K Walejko currently pursues a Ph.D. in Media, Technology and Society at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Her research focuses on digital media technologies. She is particularly interested in the use of computers and the Web in survey research as well as methods to increase the data quality of digital media use survey measures.
At this moment, Gina is collecting data for her dissertation. Using SurveyTool, an online web survey builder and administrator application, she studies whether interactive web survey features can increase the quality of media and technology use measures relative to face-to-face and traditional web surveys. Gina will also use this dissertation data to analyze which aspects of online survey user behavior, or paradata, elicit high quality web survey data. Gina will demo SurveyTool at this May's American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) conference.
Gina has also done research at Prof. Eszter Hargittai's Web Use Project. There she studied how various populations use new media, including how college students use the Web. See Information, Communication & Society 11:2 for a recent publication on this research entitled "The Participation Divide: Content creation and sharing in the digital age."
Gina received her B.S. at the University of Wisconsin in Communication Arts and Environmental Studies. She continued her studies at Wisconsin, receiving a double M.S. in Life Science Communications and Environmental Studies. While at the University of Wisconsin, Gina held several positions including science writer for Earthwatch Radio and museum exhibit prototype designer for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Materials Research Science and Engineering Center.
